F: A7 Altona Tunnel
The A7 motorway north of the Elbe tunnel is being widened to eight lanes over a length of 3.4 km. The aim is to increase capacity and relieve traffic congestion from the current volume of around 165,000 vehicles per day. The around 2.2 km long Altona tunnel is part of this expansion. The cut-and-cover tunnel will reduce noise for surrounding neighbourhoods and reconnect the districts of Othmarschen and Bahrenfeld. The inner-city location and the need to maintain three lanes of traffic in each direction at all times pose high demands on construction logistics and space management. The technical tour includes a visit to the construction of the first tunnel tube (direction Hanover). The different construction methods – closed cross-section with base slab in the south and open frame structure in the north – will be presented.
Guided tour in German and English.
