J: European XFEL / DESY X-Ray Laser
As a major international research facility, European XFEL offers insights into cutting-edge research. The centrepiece of the permanent exhibition is a model of the world’s largest X-ray laser. The 3.4 kilometre-long facility starts on the DESY campus in Hamburg Bahrenfeld and ends in the experiment hall of the European XFEL in Schenefeld. Additional interactive exhibits and information panels provide insights into the research conducted there and its possible applications. The experiment hall, covering the area of a football field, houses seven experiment stations. Researchers from around the world use extremely intense X-ray flashes to reveal atomic details of viruses, film chemical reactions, and study processes similar to those inside planets. The tour lasts 90–120 minutes and includes a guided visit to the exhibition and the experiment hall.
Guided tour in German and English.
