Opened in 2019, the Alsterdorf bus depot of Hamburger Hochbahn AG serves as a central base for the growing e-bus fleet. In 2019, it was the first depot from which series-production e-buses were deployed in Hamburg. Currently, 190 of the 240 buses stationed at Alsterdorf are emission-free. The charging infrastructure was expanded in parallel with the fleet and is located on the roofs of five of the six carports. The site’s own substation ensures power supply, transforming 110 kV to 20 kV. From Alsterdorf, more than 700 drivers operate around 30 lines, primarily serving Hamburg’s northern centre. The excursion provides insights into the operation, maintenance, and charging infrastructure of a modern e-bus depot.
