The extension of the U4 to Horner Geest will provide around 13,000 Hamburg residents with direct access to the metro network for the first time. From the end of 2027, the journey time to the city centre will be reduced by almost half to just 13 minutes – a great benefit for the expected 24,000 passengers per day. Since construction began in February 2020, a 2.6 km line with new stations at Stoltenstraße and Horner Geest has been taking shape. The first construction phase has already been completed: the Horner Rennbahn station has been transformed into a modern mobility hub, connecting metro, bus, hvv switch and Bike+Ride services. The second phase is currently progressing on schedule: by the end of 2025, the tunnels and station shells will be completed. This will be followed by track construction and technical installations in early 2026, before the line opens at the end of 2027.
