STUVA Conference 2021: Call for Papers launched

The international forum for tunnels and infrastructure is to take place from 24 to 26 November 2021 at the Karlsruhe Exhibition Centre. At the beginning of December, STUVA therefore wrote to its members and asked them to submit proposals for the lecture series on tunnel construction and tunnel operation/planning.

As usual, it is the exclusive right of STUVA members to submit lecture proposals to the STUVA conference. The Call for Papers has therefore been sent exclusively to members of STUVA e. V. and in each case only to the designated member representative. But of course all employees of our members are invited to submit interesting topics. The lecture series is divided into two segments, "Tunnelling" and "Tunnel Operation/Planning", with a total of more than 60 specialist lectures. The specialist lectures can, for example, be on the following main topics: Current developments in underground construction, major international projects, safety in the construction and operation of tunnels, exploration, planning, construction, new guidelines and regulations, innovative safety concepts, safety equipment, retrofitting, modernisation, risk management, tunnel management, maintenance, refurbishment, research, mechanised tunnelling, construction methods in difficult ground, sustainability, energy production and use, economic efficiency, drafting of contracts, financing, tunnel control technology, behaviour of road users, lighting and escape guidance systems, fire protection, fire detection. As we provide simultaneous translation, we are also happy to accept presentations in English from English-speaking speakers.

Submission deadline until 31.01.2021

If you, as a member of STUVA, are interested in participating in the STUVA conference with a lecture, we would ask you to submit an application for a lecture online at papers.stuva.de/en by 31.01.2021, observing the instructions (see adjacent link). The conference programme will be compiled from the submitted proposals by an external selection committee and finally approved by the STUVA board. As experience shows that more papers are registered than can be presented in the time available, we ask for your understanding that not all proposals may be considered. Interested persons will be informed about the outcome of the consultation by mid-May 2021.

Young Forum

Since 2010, we have been giving the next generation of tunnellers the opportunity to convey the fascination of tunnel construction in the "Young Forum". We are looking for young, highly qualified engineers or employees from all fields of tunnelling and the associated operation of traffic facilities, aged between 30 and 35 years. The participants in the "Young Forum" should already have gained initial experience in practice or science and be able to report on current new developments in their respective fields. About five of the proposals submitted will be selected for the "Young Forum" lecture event. The winner of the STUVA Young Scientist Award will be determined from these lectures. The award ceremony will take place during the festive evening event.

...and Corona ?

Against the background of the corona pandemic, it is of course not possible at present to make a reliable statement about what to expect at the planned date of the event, but the vaccinations that are now beginning allow us to look to the future with optimism. We therefore ask you, as in previous years, to submit your proposal for your participation as a speaker at the STUVA conference, even though there is a possibility that we may have to cancel the preparations for the STUVA conference. However, this will be done at such an early stage that you should have little further work to do beyond preparing the abstract.
